About

One developer, in Conway.

Widget Weasel is not an agency and there is no team behind a shared inbox. It is me. When you email, I am who reads it, and when something needs changing on your site I am who changes it.

Why this exists

I spent years building software for large companies, where a small change went through three approvals and took a fortnight. Meanwhile every shop and every trade near me was stuck with the opposite problem: a website somebody built once, years ago, that now has the wrong hours on it and nobody left to call.

Both of those are the same failure. The work is not hard. Reaching the person who can do it is hard. So I built the arrangement I would want if I ran a business on Main Street: a flat monthly price, one person, and changes that take a day or two instead of a quarter.

What I actually believe about this

The build was never the product

Anyone can put a website up. Keeping it correct for five years is the part that quietly decides whether it was worth anything. Hours drift. Prices change. Certificates lapse. Google slowly stops trusting a site nobody touches. The monthly fee is for that, not for the week I spend making it.

Nobody should be locked in

Your domain is registered to you. Your content and photos are yours. If you leave, you leave with a working copy of your site and I will help you move it. I would rather you stay because it is worth it than because the exit is painful. People who feel trapped are miserable customers, and it is not a business I want.

Everyone should be able to use it

Sites I build use real text rather than pictures of text, headings in a sensible order, labeled forms, and colors you can still read in bright sun on a phone. They work with a keyboard and with a screen reader. Some of that is because it is right, and some of it is because your customer who cannot read small gray type still has money and still wants to call somebody.

You will get an honest answer

Sometimes the honest answer is that a website is not your biggest problem right now. If the real issue is that not enough people know you exist yet, a site on its own will not fix that, and I will say so on the call. What I am good at is taking the whole website off your plate so it is one less thing you have to think about. I would rather be honest and lose twenty minutes than sell you something that does not help.

Where I work

I am in Conway and I cover the Grand Strand: Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Murrells Inlet, Little River and the rest of Horry County. I will drive to see you, because you learn more about a business in ten minutes behind its counter than in an hour on a call.

None of that stops at the county line. A good bit of my work is already out of the area, out of state, done entirely over email, and it works just as well. The Grand Strand is where I am, not the limit of who I can help. If you run a business anywhere and you want one person handling the whole website, that is the job either way.

Fair warning about the weasel.

The name is a joke that stuck. Widgets are the small useful things that make a website work, and a weasel gets into places nothing else can. It also means you will remember who I am a week after I hand you a card, which is most of the job.
